Valory Music Co. artist Jewel will join forces with the popular R&B crooner John Legend, announcing a June benefit concert in Denver with all proceeds going to The Children's Hospital, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Denver Public Schools Foundation.
The Concert For Kids 2008 will be held June 6 at the Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre in, Englewood, CO.
Jewel, the daughter of an Alaskan Cowboy singer, has long been focused on giving back. Her Project Clean Water charity has installed 35 water wells in 15 countries since 1997, and her dedication to youth homeless causes via Virgin Unite led her to Capitol Hill last year to lobby Congress to declare November National Youth Homeless Awareness Month.
Jewel is known as a well known philanthropist and she sums up her motives very nicely: "I've always been very aware of the struggles of people, just in my own life and in people's lives around me," she notes. "Growing up on a ranch in Alaska and working off the land, I learned how it feels to be poor at an early age, but being poor in a city is much more difficult. I was homeless for about a year in San Diego where I had bad kidneys, so I became aware of how expensive water is because I had to drink a gallon of bottled water a day and I couldn't really afford it. I always told myself if I ever got into a position to help, I would and youth homeless and clean water awareness are two causes are very close to my heart. I've benefited so much from the kindness of people helping me when I needed it, I'm so happy to be able to help others."
