Country Music Singer George Strait

George Strait's 'Pure Country' Hits Broadway

The 1992 film, 'Pure Country,' that starred George Strait and Lesley Ann Warren, is being turned into a Broadway musical, with it's World Premiere slated for the 2008-2009 Broadway Season.

Producers for the show include Randall L. Wreighitt, Chris Presley and Ellen Rusconi who made the announcement this week about the new show. A 'book musical,' based on the film will feature, 'an eclectic, original score drawing sounds of new and classic Country music as well as Broadway and Adult Contemporary."

Directing 'Pure Country,' will be the well known writer/director Peter Masterson, who was c-director of the Broadway musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas- he also helped direct the film version of Whorehouse.

Composing the music for Pure Country is Grammy and Emmy nominee, Steve Dorff, who has penned classic songs such as 'Through the Years," and 'Every Which Way But Loose,' among many others.

John Bettis, who wrote the lyrics for countless hits including George Strait's 'Heartland,' and Madonna's "Crazy For You," will be writing the lyrics for the show.

Casting and dates for Pure Country are still to be announced. For more information, visit www.PureCountryOnBroadway.com.
