"Nashville" Croaks ... As It Should
The Jimmy Carter Entertainment Report
You didn't need a psychic to foretell the death of Fox TV's "Nashville." What a slow moving pile of garbage. Canned after two shows.

Set up to fail on Friday nights, but the show itself was heartless and flaccid … another Nashville exploit project from carpetbaggers trying to make a buck off the "dumb ol'" hillbillies in Music City. Awful! "Anchorwoman" was a MUCH better show, by the way!

"The Nashville Star" show is awfully quiet, but they usually don't crank up their PR machine until mid-October. We presume it'll be on USA Network again with Jewel, but one rumor has the show going to NBC. As a Saturday show … that would work. But no one's talking. The bosses of that show MUST get an earlier time so kids can watch and try to get radio more involved.

Music sales are in the fall pickup stage with new major releases ever week. Reba did everything she was trying for and Rascal Flatts are going for a platinum two-week run. Faith should do okay with her greatest hits CD out 10/2; look for her on the cover of People this week.

Martina is the cover girl in Reader's Digest.

If a million people saw Kenny Chesney play this year, why hasn't he sold a million units already? Some things don't make sense.

Garth playing Kansas City?

The Brooks & Dunn CD just came in and it is very good. Cut one, "Cowboy Town," is a hit and so is the last cut, God must have been busy. A really, really good CD. Ronnie's material is especially strong.

A lot of tabloid junk floating around in the Internet sewers about Carrie Underwood. Not going to retell the trash here, but the desperate-for-circulation print tabloids seem to be some of the big instigators. Carrie is shy and sweet. The shy may come off as aloof, thus the problem with some non-country press.

Did you see where XM picked up the Opry? I thought that deal would have come a while back, but it's here now. A big positive step for the Opry show.

Just 90 days or so left in the year! Is that hard to imagine or what? A very important 90 days, too. Lots of tours to still play the road, CDs to release (including Carrie's), and awards to give out.

Can't feel anyone with great momentum for the CMA awards. Rascal Flatts, of course but is anyone else smoking things up so much they win their category? Eagles on the CMAs should be a good stunt for the ABC ratings.

Garth back on the road in Kansas City?
